Music sources: YouTube, MIDI, and more

What it is

Each song can be practiced against different audio. Open ⋯ → Music source to switch:

  • YouTube: the default. A video matched to the song, synced to the chords and lyrics.
  • Cover versions: when a band member has published a cover recording, practice against its separated stems.
  • MIDI playback: a synthesized backing track built from the song's chord timeline (appears once the song's chords are timed). Toggle its parts on and off:
    • Chords: strummed in time.
    • Drums: when the song has a detected groove.
    • Melody appears for some songs.

MIDI replaces YouTube while active: it's one or the other.

  • Spotify / Apple Music: jump out to hear the official master.

There's also an Auto-play music source toggle so playback starts the moment you open a song.

Why the video stays on screen

YouTube playback requires the player to remain visible. That's why pinning the video away pauses the sound. If you want audio with a minimal screen, try MIDI playback or Present mode.
