Practice a song

What it is

Open any song from Practice and you get its lyrics with chords placed above the words, in time with the actual recording. Press play and the song plays from YouTube while the lyrics follow along, word by word when synced lyrics exist.

The player

  • The video stays visible while playing (that's how YouTube playback works). On desktop it docks into a side rail; on your phone it floats. Tap the edge handle to pin it away (this pauses the music); tap again to bring it back and resume.
  • Tap a chord to see its diagram and variations.
  • A-B loop: press and drag across lyric lines to loop a section for drilling.
  • Rotate your phone (or pick Present mode (TV) from the ⋯ menu) for a clean full-screen view.

Practice tools

Open the practice tools panel for:

Lyrics

  • Synced karaoke: follows the song's timing (word-by-word or line-by-line), or Steady scroll: your own pace.
  • Sync nudge: shift the highlight earlier/later if it feels off; saved per song.

Chords

  • Transpose: the − / + keys move the whole song by semitones, with the current key shown; one tap back to the original key. (There's no capo control; transpose covers it.)

Timing

  • Count-in: hear the beat before the song starts (every play, or song start only).
  • Tempo: adjust BPM or tap it in; Align clicks to the song taps the click into phase with the recording.
  • Tempo trainer: start slow and ramp up to target speed.

The metronome

Toggle it from the player bar. You get animated beat dots (beat 1 accented), Tap tempo, and − / + BPM control from 40 to 300. The click is visual by default; turn the sound on with the speaker button.

More

The ⋯ menu also holds the Tuner, Sheet music, Music sources & MIDI, Chord versions, watch-a-tutorial for your instrument, notes & comments, and Report song.
